Why springs snap
Torsion springs are rated in cycles — usually 10,000 (about 7 years of typical use) or 20,000 on upgraded builds. Florida humidity and salt air corrode the coils faster than the rating assumes, which is why we default to galvanized, higher-cycle springs on every replacement.

A code door needs a different spring than the one it replaced
Wind-load and impact-rated doors carry heavier gauge steel and extra bracing, so they weigh more than the doors they went in place of. That matters across Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Englewood in particular, where a great many doors were replaced in a hurry after a storm. If yours went in during one of those seasons and the springs were carried over or matched to the old spec, they are working above their intended load and they will tell you early. We weigh the door rather than reading the old spring, because a spring sized to the previous door is the most common reason a two-year-old installation is already back on our list.
